Biography

Malcolm Bryant began his marine arts career at Mystic Seaport Museum,
apprenticing under master model maker and woodcarver Richard Orr. There he
became proficient in the fine art of ship modeling and decorative wood carving,
later combining this with an industrial design and prototype business. Numerous
ship models for the Smithsonian and the design and execution of bow and stern
graphics for the America's Cup contender "American Eagle" highlight his artistic
career.

Having spent many years building models for some of the foremost museums in this
country and being an avid cruising sailor for some fifty years, his paintings show
authenticity and the many moods of the sea. As a self-taught artist, Bryant has
exclusively painted in acrylic on canvas with a technique often mistaken for oils.
His work reflects his broad knowledge of ships' rigging, construction, and maritime
history, and of course, his love for the sea.

Malcolm Bryant, a native of Bridgeport, has resided in Easton, Stratford,
Bridgeport and Mystic, Connecticut. An avid sailor all of his life, he and his wife
Adella, have owned a number of sailing boats in which they and their five children
cruised Long Island Sound, Buzzards Bay and the Cape Cod waters.
